Providing Hands-on Experience in Electric Power Engineering Education

Date: July 27, 2023
Location: Online

This online workshop demonstrated hands-on laboratories for electric-power education at undergraduate and graduate levels. Faculty presented laboratory platforms for advanced power electronics, electric drives and control, power systems using PSS®E and Python, climate-crisis solutions, and sustainable electricity, followed by discussion of community- and technical-college certificate pathways.

Speakers
Objectives

Disseminate information about University of Minnesota electric-power laboratories by demonstrating them in operation and describing experiments for undergraduate and graduate courses.

  • Show laboratories for power electronics, electric drives and their control, power systems, pipeline courses, and advanced power electronics.
  • Explain how the laboratories can support regular coursework and student projects.
  • Extend hands-on learning to high schools and technical or community colleges through pipeline courses and an Electric Power Engineering certificate pathway.
